February Newsletter

Don’t forget to check out our Face book page for up to date photos of activities around the nursery!

At nursery all policies and procedures are available please e-mail if you would like a copy of anything. We are also adding some to our web site such as our behaviour policy, child protection policy etc.

Please could you label all your children’s clothing that they wear to nursery in particular coats to avoid any confusion and other parents taking home the wrong clothes by mistake. Thank you.

Don’t forget our suggestion box on the right hand site in the foyer if you would like to leave payments, notes, and suggestions etc. for the office to collect. We are always happy to receive suggestions as they help us improve our practice.

Previous newsletters can be viewed on our web site should you wish to have a look if your child has just started with us at nursery.

Unfortunately our e-mail system was down for a week from the 12th-16th January. Therefore we were unable to access our e-mails or indeed use the computer during this time. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and lack of contact during this period.

This is our Cardiff Healthy and Pre-school Scheme working towards a healthy lifestyle. If you require any more information please let us know and we can forward our policy.

We would like to set a small competition to get our new section of the environment going. We would love it if you and your child could design an A4 poster promoting a way or ways to save energy around the nursery. This could be recycling, turning off lights, saving water, composting etc. The winner will receive a free short day session and the kudos of having their poster displayed all around the nursery. You can have any design you want but it does need to be flat enough to photocopy. Please try to include your child as much as possible as we would love to see the children’s designs. Closing date for this will be Monday 23rd February!!!

We are pleased to announce that we renewed our healthy snack award certificate and passed our inspection visit. There will be a new book in the foyer soon to look at showing what we got up to. Thank you to everyone who completed a questionnaire, it was very much appreciated. All questionnaire names were put into a hat and winner drawn at random, to say thank you and receive a bottle of wine is Edith’s mum and dad. Please collect your wine from your child’s basket

Activities and Topics
The wonderful wardrobe visited us on the 20th January and all the children had a fantastic time as the lady carried out a session in all 4 groups. It was lovely to be able to find an activity the younger children could join in with too!

Healthy Body, Happy me week supported by the NDNA will be carried out around nursery in March. There will be ideas and suggestions we may need you to join in with so watch this space!!

Topics for February include national doodle day, Valentine’s Day, Shrove Tuesday, Chinese New Year, national storytelling week and bird watch events.

Butterflies – All about me, let’s explore hands and feet

Dragonflies - All about animals, let’s explore bears

Ladybirds - Animals and their surroundings, let’s explore cats and dogs

Caterpillars - Fun with colours, shapes, letters and numbers in English and Welsh

Sometimes homework tasks are set for your child’s group to complete at home. These are designed to be fun activities to engage your child and extend the topic theme. These are displayed at nursery and discussed at circle time. Having your child’s work from home displayed for the other children to see fosters a sense of belonging and pride. Therefore we would really appreciate it if every effort can be made to complete the tasks. We are able to help by supplying paper etc. or printing off photographs, please just ask. Thank you.

Health and safety
February Newsletter
As you may be aware we have had a few illnesses recently at nursery. Unfortunately it is that time of year when sickness bugs do the rounds. We have really appreciated everyone who has stuck to the 48 hour exclusion period and longer as this avoided it being spread unnecessarily to other children. Chicken pox is still slowly going around so please make sure you are aware of the signs and symptoms.

It is paramount that as a parent/guardian you are contactable at all times. Please ensure your contact details are updated with us as necessary and that you are easily reached. If you think you may be unreachable for the day please ensure you leave an alternative contact number. Thank you.
