December 2014 Newsletter
December Newsletter

From time to time nursery likes to send home little homework tasks and these are really important. These relate to a certain topic the children are following. We appreciate the time constraints of working parents but these are really beneficial to the children as they go on display and are often talked about in circle time. Therefore if these could be completed we would really appreciate it. Any photos you wish to use can be e-mailed over to us to print or if you require any paper etc please just ask..

We are still collecting wet wipe packets for Ellie’s brain tumour charity so please keep bringing them in. There is a box in the foyer to place these in.

Copies of our exclusion policy for illness and adverse weather policy can be found in the foyer, feel free to take a copy. All policies and procedures are located in the 2 brown folders, if you require any policy please do not hesitate to ask and we will e-mail over.

The children have been busy using the chrome note book and expertly designed the insects on our staff board! They have also been really busy with Christmas craft which we hope you will enjoy and treasure. Topics for next year have been organised so we will let you know month by month in the newsletter what each group is doing. We will be holding a few special events and having visits too, we are even hoping to hatch ducks! We aim to have special discounted sessions on visit days too. Special dates for your diary will be in our next newsletter.

Zoo labs came to visit us last month bringing in a variety of animals. Check out our face book page for photos.

CIW Inspection visit
We had an unannounced visit from CIW on the 20th November with 2 new inspectors who carried out a full inspection on the premises and the way we work. A full report will be available in January and will be placed in the foyer should anyone wish to take a copy. Good practise was discussed so there will be a few alterations to paperwork and activities as from January. We will let you know of these fully in the next newsletter but will include a change to activity planning, observations (no longer doing bi monthly reports) and updating forms/paperwork such as one annual quality review report rather than three. Staff worked really hard as they always do during the inspection
–well done everyone!

NSPCC number day
This is being held on Friday 5th December. Look out for your reminder e-mail soon. Children are invited to wear clothing with numbers on and staff will be carrying out a variety of number activities.

We will be asking each child’s parents/carer who attends on this day and any other parents/carers whose child attends nursery prior to the event to help us to raise money for this good cause by entering a special number raffle. Number’s can be picked from a one hundred square (£1 per number)
– the prize up for grabs is a short day session at nursery worth £30.00 to be booked at your leisure and a bottle of wine!

The One hundred square will be available in the foyer from Monday 1st Dec – Friday 5th December for parents to choose their magic number.

Our new carpets for the Butterflies, Dragonflies and Caterpillars are nearly here! These will be fitted on a weekend very soon and should make the rooms nice and cosy. Please can we remind parents to take off shoes upstairs to ensure the carpet stays clean and for the Caterpillars group to put their shoes under their coat pegs when dropping off in the morning. Many thanks.

Due to having the carpet downstairs we will be having a restructure of lunchtimes so that the ladybird group can sleep in the front room. This frees up the other 2 rooms, toilet and garden for more structured free flow time for both groups to enjoy a wider variety of activities.

The Dragonflies group will be having new birch wood tables and chairs suitable for their age range similar to those in the baby unit. This will be arriving sometime in January. The 2-3 years will also be receiving new chairs for their messy room.

Staffing News
Courses for November included Alana with induction and supervision, Charlotte, Jess P and Rhian with child protection, Jodie and Jenna with circle time and Sam J for storytelling. Well done all!

May we take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
We thank you for your continued support over 2014.
