Reminders

Please ensure you label everything including shoes that your child brings into nursery. Don’t forget wellies and coats for winter too. Thank you.

We are still updating our hairdresser box and require old shampoo bottles, toiletry bottles, hair accessories etc. If you could help us out that would be great.

Our Winter menu is now back on where we look forward to some more homemade yummy soups and hot dishes!!

Please feel free to bring in a sensible pair of slippers for your child to wear in the Winter months.

The baby unit is filling up fast, if you wish to book any days for a sibling please let us know and we can give you the relevant forms

Homework for Ladybirds group

November Newsletter

The staff in the ladybirds group (aged 2-3 years) would love it if you could make an Autumnal collage to bring in for the homework board. It can be any size and could include photos, pictures, drawings, collected items such as leaves or twigs etc. The choice is up to you. Please speak to Jodie or Lauren should you require any further information. Can’t wait to see the finished products!!

Questionnaire outcome

Thank you to everyone who took the time to return the questionnaire regarding us getting rid of daily reports for the children aged 2-5 years as recommended by CIW on our inspection. We appreciate all comments and by looking at the results the majority were in favour with one hesitation and two no. Therefore after discussion amongst ourselves and the decision that time is best spent with the children we have decided to phase these out over the coming month with the oldest age group first. We will be looking at other ways of feedback for the Ladybirds group as we are aware some children are toilet training etc such as shortening the daily reports, redesigning them or phasing them out. Any ideas gratefully received!!

We will be writing meal intakes down so we can tell you verbally at the end of the day. This will be kept confidential in a folder to be shared with you on collection of your child. The menu board in the foyer is already up and running and accurate and is filled in at 10am each day. Staff will be writing on the white boards the main activities of the day but you will also be told this verbally. This system will allow for the transition to school where information is far less on food and activities…

Hopefully these changes will improve staff/parent communication and ensure no more inaccuracies on daily sheets. Please note we will not be able to do individual daily sheets if requested as this would be unfair to other parents and defeats the whole object. You may wish to take a photo of the menu board on collection should you need to pass any information on to a family member or we may be able to do this daily ourselves to send out to you….

New assessments

November Newsletter

We are pleased to announce our new assessment booklets will be coming shortly. If your child has already started an old one these will be filled in before finishing off then the new ones introduced. The new ones have been devised to make them more individual to each child, informative and easy to read for parents and in a fun format of flower petals. All observations and milestones will be positives and each milestone will be unique to your child. There will still be observations of the stages of development but these will be positive ones rather than at present a list of things they can sometimes do or rarely do. This will avoid any comparison between what is observed at nursery and at home. We hope you will enjoy your child’s new learning journey!

Topics

November Newsletter

This month we will be celebrating Bonfire night, Remembrance Day and St Andrew’s day.

Butterflies: - Exploring fruit and vegetables, treasure basket

Dragonflies:-Transport and people who help us

Ladybirds:-Music, movement and busy feet week

Caterpillars:-Familiar stories and rhymes

The caterpillars group will also be carrying out a lot of circle time activities to increase the children’s confidence, learning how to share and get along with one another, reminding them to always tell an adult if hurt or worried, making up new group rules and other important issues. We find circle time works really well at promoting independence and of course the children enjoy sharing all their stories!!

Items purchased

Our new bathroom is looking fantastic, please feel free to take a look when coming to nursery. We particularly love the new red floor which we hope to have in all our messy dining rooms over the coming 12 months.

We having been busy purchasing new items for the children again, including dolls house, registration board, lego, train track and puzzles.

Staffing

Staff were busy with courses in October. We had an in house training meeting for all staff with a fantastic morning making playdough and discussing nursery aspects. Jodie and Sammy attended ‘ how to prevent gastrointestinal illness in your setting’, Dawn updated her food hygiene certificate, Lowri and Cerys attended a two week Welsh course and Sue undertook her food hygiene update too. Well done all!

Due to numbers in the nursery and to ensure staff work to their full potential there will be a small change around for some staff members shortly starting 9th November.

Butterflies: Sammy, Charlotte, Cara, Sam J, Laura M

Dragonflies: Gemma, Lowri, Tanita, Sophie

Ladybirds: Jodie, Lauren, Jess P, Jenna

Caterpillars: Alana, Sue, Kim

Office: Laura, Jess, Lisa

Kitchen: Dawn, Robyn, Becky

Employee of the month votes received included Laura M and Charlotte. Both are fantastic members of the baby room staff who work hard but Charlotte receives the prize as voted for by Ioan for helping him settle into nursery and forming a lovely bond with Charlotte. Please check your child’s basket for your bottle of wine!!
